Morocco Travel Update (as of July 2022)

Before heading to Morocco, it’s important to be updated on the current travel requirements and restrictions.

As of May 2022, Morocco has reopened its borders for international travel. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and follow the latest travel advisories from their government. Morocco has put in place a number of measures to ensure the safety of visitors, including mandatory face masks and temperature checks at airports. Passengers in the Marrakech airport may also be randomly selected to complete a rapid antigen test upon arrival.

Before traveling, visitors planning to visit Morocco are advised to take into account their health status and the potential risk of contracting COVID 19 while abroad. Anyone thinking about traveling abroad should be aware that limitations can change quickly and that new rules might be put in place by the country you plan to visit, even while you are in the country.

Is Morocco open for international travel?

Recent news reports show that Morocco is now open to international travelers! This is great news for those looking to take a Morocco trip. All you need is a valid vaccination passport or a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of your flight and you're good to go.

Do I need to be vaccinated to travel to Morocco?

No, you do not need to be vaccinated to travel to Morocco. However, if you are vaccinated against Covid-19, you can show proof of this vaccination in lieu of a recent negative PCR test.

What are the Covid19 restrictions in Morocco?

As of July 2022, all visitors to Morocco over 18 years old must have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of their flight or a valid vaccination passport to enter the country.

The proof of vaccination should show the completion of three doses of the COVID 19 vaccine, or if only two doses were done, the date of the second dose should not exceed 4 months. For the J&J vaccine, a single dose is equivalent to two doses of the other vaccines.

Travelers entering Morocco by ship or by plane will also be required to complete a health form, which can be downloaded online here before boarding. This form will be required to show when passing through Morocco customs.

Children under age 12 are exempt from all entry requirements.

What are the current sanitary measures in Morocco?

Morocco has put in place a number of sanitary measures to protect both visitors and locals from the spread of Covid19. These measures include:

  • The wearing of face masks in all public spaces (optional)
  • Washing your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Maintaining a social distance of at least 2 meters
  • Regular disinfection of public spaces, including museums, stores, restaurants, and cinemas

  • Morocco is a relatively safe country to travel to, but it's always important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to keep yourself and your belongings safe.
  • Morocco is a Muslim country, so you should dress modestly (avoiding shorts and sleeveless tops) and be respectful of religious customs. This is mainly for when visiting the city center and religious buildings in Morocco though, those staying in hotels or resorts can typically dress however they please.
  • Travelers visiting Morocco during Ramadan should keep in mind that many businesses and restaurants will be closed during the day, as Muslims are fasting.
  • Morocco is a very welcoming country, but it's always important to be aware of cultural differences and to not do anything that could be considered offensive. This includes avoiding public displays of affection, not taking photos of people without their permission, and being aware of your body language.
